Fifth and Final Release in U.S. Mint’s Best of Series

The United States Mint will soon release the Best of the Mint 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set. This fifth and final installment in its Best of the Mint series celebrates one of the most beautiful designs the mint ever struck—the iconic striding Miss Liberty as rendered by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the world-renowned sculptor who was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt to redesign the nation’s coinage in the early 1900s. 

The Best of the Mint tribute features a stunning reproduction of the 1907 Saint-Gaudens high-relief double eagle in a 24-karat gold, 1-troy ounce format. The coin also carries a special privy mark bearing the number “250” within the silhouette of the Liberty Bell, recognizing the nation’s 250th anniversary. 

The companion medal, produced with 1 troy ounce of .999-fine silver, carries the Saint-Gaudens design into the nation’s semiquincentennial year. On the obverse, Miss Liberty nods her head approvingly in a poignant close-up as she hands her lit torch directly to the viewer. The date 2026 is rendered in Roman numerals as MMXXVI, similar to how the date was inscribed on the earliest 1907 Saint-Gaudens double eagles. The reverse of the medal depicts a flying eagle draped in the American flag, a conspicuously patriotic take on the bird from the original piece. 

Demand is expected to be robust for this two-piece set, which wraps up the popular Best of the Mint series that also revived the 1916 Mercury dime, 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar, and 1804 Draped Bust dollar designs as gold coins paired with complementary silver medals. Only 15,000 sets will be available to the public when the U.S. Mint releases them on September 24 at noon ET.
