The Best of the Mint 1804 Silver Dollar Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set is the fourth of five such two-piece sets produced by the U.S. Mint. The mint will be releasing a 24-karat gold facsimile of the 1804 Draped Bust dollar, a numismatic posterchild famously known as the “King of American Coins.” With only 16 specimens known, the 1804 silver dollar has intrigued collectors for generations, and the .9999-fine gold iteration is sure to be a hit. It is being paired with a .999-fine silver companion medal featuring a version of Miss Liberty that hearkens back to the Flowing Hair motifs of the 1790s.

The 1-troy-ounce gold coin was struck at the West Point Mint but has no “W” mintmark; it boasts an uncirculated finish and is anchored by a faithful replica of the Draped Bust portrait that was centrally featured on the 1804 dollar, along with a 250 privy mark shaped like the silhouette of the Liberty Bell to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. Meanwhile, the 1-troy-ounce silver medal also sports an uncirculated finish. It hails from the Philadelphia Mint but does not carry a “P” mintmark.

The authorized mintage limit for the set is 15,000. It has a household ordering limit of just one, and sales will surely be brisk when this long-awaited pair becomes available on August 27 at noon Eastern Time.
