Third Release in U.S. Mint’s Best of Series

The U.S. Mint is releasing the Best of the Mint 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set today. The third release in the  Best of the Mint program, this iteration pairs a faithful reproduction of the 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar in a .9999-fine gold format with a .999-fine silver medal bearing a design that harmonizes with the original coin’s neoclassical-style motif by Adolph A. Weinman. In celebration of America’s semiquincentennial, the Best of the Mint series includes five pairings of gold coins with U.S. Mint classic designs and complementary silver medals.  

The half-ounce, 24-karat gold half dollar bears the date 1916, the first year of production for Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar, along with a Liberty Bell privy mark featuring the number 250, honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary. Meanwhile, the 1-troy-ounce silver medal sports a stylized rendition of the original coin’s obverse stretched across both sides as if a single scene. The gold coin and silver medal feature an uncirculated finish, with the half dollar struck at the West Point Mint and the medal hailing from Philadelphia. However, neither piece carries a mintmark. Pricing is to be determined based on spot prices upon sale. Additionally, the mintage limit for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set is capped at 30,000 with a household ordering limit of one.
