Best of the Mint 1916 Mercury Dime 

The U.S. Mint is honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026 by releasing a variety of two-piece sets celebrating classic numismatic designs. Among them is the Mercury dime, designed by Adolph A. Weinman and produced from 1916 through 1945. The Mercury dime is being resurrected in the Best of the Mint series, a semiquincentennial special release that reissues beloved American designs on 24-karat gold coins alongside silver medals inspired by the classic motif on their golden companions.

The set’s 1916-dated gold Mercury dime features a faithful reproduction of the vintage 10-cent piece. The motif on the medal spans the obverse and reverse and evokes the domestic and international trials faced during the Mercury dime’s original run; Miss Liberty holds a sword emitting rays from its tip, symbolizing hope following World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II—all major events that mired the 30-year period during which the Mercury dime was in production.

The Best of the Mint 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set will be released by the U.S. Mint on June 4. The two-piece set has a production limit of 30,000, and its issue price is contingent on the prevailing spot prices of gold and silver.
