Just in time for Halloween, the Royal Mint has brought to life an iconic character on its new bullion release—Frankenstein’s monster. Available in 1-ounce, .999-fine silver and gold versions, the coin is the second release in the mint’s Gothic Horror series. The 2025 release, designed by Joel Iskowitz, featured Count Dracula from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula.

A Shocking Success

The 2026 release honors the monster from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein, which she published at age 19. The novel debuted under anonymous authorship, and most readers assumed Shelley’s husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley, wrote it. The book was highly successful and influential. It has inspired numerous plays and movies, from Mel Brooks’s 1974 comedy Young Frankenstein to the most recent film adaptation in 2025, directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Frankenstein’s Monster

William Webb designed the reverse, which features Victor Frankenstein’s creation facing front. In the background, lightning jumps between the apparatus that brought Frankenstein’s monster to life. More lightning appears along the rim, along with the legend FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER, the fineness, and the year. Martin Jennings’s effigy of King Charles III is on the obverse.

The gold £100 has a mintage of 5,000 and costs $4,372, and the silver £2 has a mintage of 50,000 and costs $82. Both versions, as well as the 2025 Dracula release, are available on the Royal Mint’s website.
