In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. Mint is offering coin bags and rolls of the 9/11 Enduring Liberty half dollars for preorder on its website until September 25. “Offering these special coins to a greater number of Americans affords more of us a tangible reminder of how the nation came together on that fateful day and provides us opportunity to educate younger generations, many of whom were not even born, about the sacrifices made,” says U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis.

The obverse, designed by sculptor-engraver Donna Weaver and engraved by mint medallic artist John P. McGraw, shows a closeup of the Statue of Liberty gazing to the left. The reverse depicts Liberty passing her torch to a new generation. United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Beth Zaiken designed the reverse, and mint medallic artist Darla Jackson engraved it. A special privy mark includes the date 9/11/01, encircled by the phrase ALWAYS REMEMBER.  Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the circulation-quality coins are available in a 20-coin roll for $40 and a 100-coin bag for $100. The Enduring Liberty rolls and bags have an unlimited mintage, as well as no household order limit. Shipping is expected to begin December 3.
