The Bank of Scotland has unveiled a limited-edition £20 note to highlight Scotland national soccer team midfielder Scott McTominay’s iconic overhead kick. His goal in the November match against Denmark helped secure Scotland’s spot in this year’s World Cup. It is the first time since 1998 that the men’s team has qualified for the tournament. “Securing qualification in such dramatic fashion is a moment fans will never forget, and we wanted to mark it in a way that’s rooted in Scottish identity,” says Emma Noble, chair of the Bank of Scotland’s Scottish executive committee. “Like football, bank notes have long been part of our country’s story, and this limited edition £20 note combines those two traditions with a modern, creative twist.”

The note features the traditional £20 design, with the addition of a small graphic depicting McTominay’s goal-scoring kick. His name and signature appear beside the image. The Bank of Scotland only printed 100 notes, with 50 available through auctions, a prize drawing, and two pop-ups in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Both the online auction and prize draw will end at 11 a.m. GMT on Friday, June 26. At the pop-ups, fans can guess the code to open a vault and secure one of the notes. All proceeds from the auction and prize drawing will support Crisis Scotland, a national charity that helps people experiencing homelessness.

Scotland will play against Haiti on June 14 and Morocco on June 19 in Boston, and against Brazil on June 24 in Miami.
