Texas Precious Metals and Sunshine Minting have officially broken the Guinness World Record for the world’s heaviest silver coin. Weighing in at 173 pounds, 14 ounces, with a diameter of 18 inches and a thickness of 2.5 inches, the silver coin was produced by Sunshine Minting in Henderson, Nevada.

A Guinness World Records official certified the coin’s weight and awarded the record at an event on July 1 in Austin, Texas. “Setting a Guinness World Records title is an incredible achievement, but what makes this project especially meaningful is what it represents,” says Tarek Saab, CEO and cofounder of Texas Precious Metals. “This coin was created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence, one of the defining moments in our nation’s history. We are proud to have partnered with Sunshine Minting to bring this vision to life and demonstrate what can be achieved through American craftsmanship, precision, and innovation.”

Fittingly, the company set the goal weight at 2,500 troy ounces. The production process involved crafting two 5,500-ounce blanks. Additionally, a computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine ran for 168 hours on each side to create the design, an undertaking that required constant supervision. Six people completed the final polishing and stoning process, which took a total of 448 hours.

The record-breaking coin features the U.S. heraldic eagle with an olive branch in its left talon and 13 arrows in its right on the obverse. Above, 250 YEARS appears in a banner, with the Liberty Bell and the state of Texas below.

The reverse depicts the Statue of Liberty’s torch with 13 stars in the background. The years 1776 and 2026 appear below, as well as the denomination ($250), weight, and the Island Nation of Niue’s public seal. The legend COMMEMORATING AMERICA’S SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL also appears along the rim.

The specimen will be on display in Shiner, Texas. It will also appear at the Governor’s Cup Rodeo in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on September 25-27. Additionally, it will be at the Cowboy Christmas Gift Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 3-12.
