U.S. Constitution Quarters Enter Circulation

On August 10, the U.S. Mint will begin shipping the 2026 semiquincentennial U.S. Constitution quarters to Federal Reserve Banks for distribution. 

Known as the “Father of the Constitution,” the fourth U.S. president, James Madison, appears on the obverse of the U.S. Constitution quarters. The inscriptions E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1776-2026 encircle his portrait. The reverse features Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the building where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the U.S. Constitution was debated and adopted. WE THE PEOPLE appears at right, with LIBERTY • UNITED STATES OF AMERICA • U.S. CONSTITUTION along the rim.

The Semiquincentennial Coin Program

Authorized by the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, the America 250 releases feature designs emblematic of the country’s history and founding principles. The other semiquincentennial quarters released so far feature the Mayflower Compact, the Revolutionary War, and the Declaration of Independence. The final design will center on the Gettysburg Address.
