Star Trek Celebrated with Out-of-This-World Collectibles

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Star Trek, the Royal Mint has released a commemorative coin. A second will be issued in November.

The reverse features the iconic Vulcan hand salute. To the left is the phrase LIVE LONG & PROSPER with the Star Trek logo and the numeral 60 above. On the obverse is Martin Jennings’s effigy of King Charles III. Available in brilliant uncirculated, brilliant uncirculated color, silver proof color, and gold proof, the coin can be purchased on the Royal Mint’s website. The brilliant-uncirculated versions have an unlimited mintage. Mintages for the silver and gold versions are limited to 5,000 and 100, respectively. Also available are models of the various starships featured in the franchise. 

Star Trek

Created by Gene Roddenberry and owned by Paramount Pictures, the first Star Trek episode was aired in the United States on September 8, 1966. The original series ran for three seasons, concluding in 1969, and followed the adventures of the crew on the starship USS Enterprise as they explored new planets. The next series, an animated show, premiered in 1973 and ran for two seasons. Star Trek: The Next Generation followed in 1987.

The franchise generated a cult following, with 13 television series, totaling 961 episodes across 52 seasons. Additionally, there have been 14 films, numerous games, and hundreds of novels, short stories, and comics dedicated to the franchise.
