President Trump $1 Coin Revealed

The U.S. Mint has revealed the final design for the 2026 semiquincentennial President Donald Trump $1 coin. Authorized by the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, the $1 coin will enter circulation in the fall.

Significant debate surrounded the coin’s design. Critics cited an 1866 act of Congress and the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act’s design restrictions, which bars portraits of living people from the reverse of coins issued for the program. As a result, Joseph Menna’s portrait of the president appears on the obverse. LIBERTY is inscribed above, with the years 1776-2026 below and IN GOD WE TRUST at right. The reverse features Frank Gasparro’s historic presidential seal, with the numerals “250” added to the shield in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. 

The President Donald Trump $1 coin is the first instance in which a sitting U.S. president has appeared on circulating coinage. In 1926 the American Independence half dollar, a commemorative coin issued for the U.S. sesquicentennial,  featured President Calvin Coolidge alongside George Washington on the obverse.

The Philadelphia Mint will strike the circulation-finish Trump coins without a mintmark. Bags and rolls of the $1 coin will be available for purchase from the U.S. Mint.
