Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) is offering a $5,000 bounty for the first submitted “discovery” of the limited-edition 2026 Declaration of Independence quarter featuring a special July 4 privy mark as part of its 2026 Quarter Quest initiative.

The privy mark quarter, issued by the U.S. Mint in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, has a limited mintage of just 250,000 and will enter circulation through standard channels. “This is a real ‘Golden Ticket’ moment for American numismatics,” says PCGS President Stephanie Sabin. “We’re excited to bring back Quarter Quest and reward collectors who carefully search circulation coins.”

The first verified “July 4” privy mark discovery submission will receive a $5,000 reward and a “First Discovery” pedigree label. Additional submissions made within 90 days will qualify for an “Early Find®” designation and a special America Semiquincentennial label.

The “July 4” privy mark appears on the obverse of the coin near the portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Collectors are encouraged to examine pocket change, rolls, and bank-wrapped coins as part of the nationwide search. PCGS notes that the smaller mintage makes this release significantly rarer than previous Quarter Quest challenges conducted in 2019 and 2020, when mintages reached 2 million coins per issue.
