Bank of Canada Reveals New Note

The Bank of Canada has unveiled a $20 bank note depicting King Charles III, making it the first Commonwealth country to feature the king on its notes. 

King Charles III’s portrait appears on the front of the vertically oriented note. In the background are 13 floral emblems, representing Canada’s 13 provinces. Four plants significant to the indigenous people of Canada—wild strawberries, western red cedar, braided sweetgrass, and arctic cotton—appear below the purple security stripe. On the back is the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France, which commemorates Canada’s role in World War I. The note also introduces new security features, including dynamic movement of the maple leaf, poppy, and numbers in the security stripe on the front of the note. 

The Bank of Canada will release the $20 bank note into circulation in early 2027.
