ANS Medal Celebrates 250 Years of American Enterprise

The American Numismatic Society (ANS) has released a commemorative medal celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Titled The Pursuit of Happiness Through Enterprise, the medal was designed by acclaimed sculptor and medalist Chris Kunk, an artistic fellow at the Newington-Cropsey Foundation and recipient of the National Sculpture Society’s Dexter Jones Award.

The medal honors the ideals that have shaped our nation through symbolic imagery. The obverse depicts an allegorical figure of Time holding a gear before a clock set to 2:50, representing the nation’s semiquincentennial. Positioned between the dates 1776 and 2026, Time looks toward the future while acknowledging America’s past. The reverse features three horses symbolizing the energy, freedom, and determination that have fueled American progress.

Available in 2-inch and 3-inch bronze and silver versions, the medal joins more than 60 commemorative medals the ANS has commissioned during its 167-year history. Orders will be accepted through August 4, with a 10-percent discount offered before July 4.
