Working Dogs Honored on Commemoratives

The U.S. Mint has unveiled designs for its 2027 Working Dogs commemorative coin program. Intended to support the mission of America’s VetDogs, a not-for-profit organization that provides service dogs to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders, the program will include gold $5, silver $1, and clad half dollar coins.

The gold $5 features a close-up of a therapy dog on the obverse along with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT. On the reverse, a child rests their head on a therapy dog, with the denomination and THERAPY DOGS below. The silver $1 honors service dogs, featuring a guide dog leading its handler on the obverse. The inscriptions LIVE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES • IN GOD WE TRUST • 2027 • LIBERTY • GUIDE DOG surround the design. A man in a wheelchair pets his service dog on the reverse, with the country, denomination, and PUPPY WITH A PURPOSE along the rim. The clad half dollar depicts a police K-9 wearing a vest and goggles while standing on rubble. LIBERTY • IN GOD WE TRUST • DEFENDING AMERICA encircles the design. On the reverse, another police dog sniffs a bag.

The U.S. Mint has not yet announced the release date for the Working Dogs commemoratives.
