The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially the XXV Winter Olympic Games and commonly known as Milano Cortina 2026, is an international multi-sport event that takes place from February 6-22 at sites across Lombardy and Northeast Italy. The Paralympic Winter Games for athletes with disabilities will take place next month (March 6-15).

Collectors looking to get in on the action will have more to celebrate than these athlete’s achievements. The Italian Republic is recognizing the world’s best of the best athletes with an exclusive series of coins.

All issues have a common obverse with the official logo of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The reverses of the three gold pieces feature the Olympic flame, with either the Olympic rings or Paralympic swooshes below. The inscription VIAGGIO DELLA FIAMMA OLIMPICA (“Journey of the Olympic Flame”) surrounds the central design. Six proof, .999-fine silver €6 coins feature a different winter sport on the reverse—speed skating, curling, ski jumping, snowboarding, alpine skiing, or Nordic skiing.

The Italian Mint also issued three copper-nickel coins with reverses of either the Dolomites mountains, the Milan Cathedral, or Tina, the official mascot of the Milano Cortina Olympic Games.
