Washington Seeks Ideas for 2029 American Innovation $1 Coin

 Washington is seeking public input to help determine which state innovation or innovator will be featured on its 2029 Innovation $1 Coin. Washington State Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti invites residents to submit ideas through the Washington State Treasurer’s website. Pellicciotti and an advisory committee will review the submissions and recommend concepts to Governor Bob Ferguson, who must submit the state’s final ideas to the U.S. Mint by mid-October.

The U.S. Mint launched the American Innovation $1 Coin Program in 2018 to recognize innovations and innovators from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. The program is scheduled to continue through 2032.

Following Washington’s selection, the design will undergo development and additional advisory review before the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury makes the final design selection. Pellicciotti says, “Washington’s story is suffused with innovation in the arts and sciences which span eras of American history. As leaders of culture and industry, I am confident that our state will have a broad range of options to represent our state’s tradition of invention and revolution.”
