The U.S. Mint released designs for the first five coins in its Youth Sports Coin Collection, a circulating coin program set to begin in 2027. Over four years, the mint will issue five quarters annually featuring youth sports and one half dollar highlighting a Paralympic sport. The program was authorized by the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 and signed into law by President Donald Trump in January 2021.

“Participation in sports teaches teamwork, perseverance, and the value of working toward a common goal,” says U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis. “Through the Youth Sports Coin Collection, the mint has a unique opportunity to instill a sense of national pride and to celebrate the role sports play in the lives of all Americans.”

The quarters will feature a new portrait of George Washington on the obverse, with each reverse depicting a different sport. The half dollars will carry a newly designed John F. Kennedy portrait and reverses honoring sports adapted for athletes with disabilities. The 2027 quarters will celebrate baseball, golf, soccer, softball, and snowboarding. The 2027 half dollar will depict wheelchair basketball.
