Turning Black Friday Green
The first officially licensed Dr. Seuss coin becomes available for purchase on Friday, November 29. Rare Collectibles TV is the exclusive seller of the coin, which depicts the titular character from Dr. Seuss’s beloved children’s book How the Grinch Stole Christmas, first published in 1957.
The large, .999-fine silver coin measures 38.6mm in diameter and features a colorized portrait of the Grinch. The legend E PLURIBUS FUN ‘EM appears to the right. The reverse depicts a scene from Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! The legend DR. SEUSS repeats in the background, and the inscriptions around the rim include the denomination ($1) and the coin’s weight and fineness. The reverse design will appear on all the initial collectable Dr. Seuss coins. Additionally, the emblem of the Fort Sill, Chiricahua, and Warm Springs Apache Tribe is on the reverse. The Oklahoma-based tribe is the sovereign entity issuing the Dr. Seuss coins, which are struck in the United Kingdom by the Commonwealth Mint & Philatelic Bureau.
The Grinch coin will have a mintage of 5,000, and Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) will certify each example. PCGS will encapsulate each coin with a special Dr. Seuss insert label. A unique certificate of authenticity puzzle piece will accompany each piece. When collectors put the certificates of authenticity from each coin in the series together, they will create an image of an iconic Dr. Seuss character. Individuals can also join the Dr. Seuss Club, where Rare Collectibles TV will send members one of the eight classic Dr. Seuss character coins every other month. Members can also receive a rare ninth mystery character coin as a free gift for joining the club.
