Just a month after the recently discovered James A. Stack Sr. Class III 1804 Draped Bust dollar sold for a record-breaking $6 million, another example of the “King of Silver Dollars” will cross the auction block. The Adams-Carter 1804 dollar will headline a private collection set to appear in Heritage’s FUN U.S. Coins Signature Auction, to be held January 14–18.

Only four of the 16 examples of the 1804 silver dollar remain in private hands. The Adams-Carter Class III dollar has passed through some of the most prestigious numismatic collections, including those of Captain John W. Haseltine, Phineas Adams, Amon G. Carter Sr., Waldo Newcomer, and Colonel E.H.R. Green. Long-regarded as the finest Class III example in private ownership, it last sold in 2009 for $2.3 million. This rarity will anchor the sale of the Presidio Collection, part of which will be offered at FUN, with additional highlights following later in the year.
