The Royal Mint has unveiled its 2026 Britannia proof coin design, which celebrates Britannia as a figure of strength and resilience. Designed by American coin designer Emily Damstra, the new reverse depicts Britannia facing left and holding a shield and a trident. She is surrounded by a turbulent ocean, reflecting the United Kingdom’s long maritime tradition. In the background, a lighthouse stands on some cliffs, reinforcing the theme of guidance and stability amid rough seas. Below the scene is the inscription MAJESTY, JUSTICE AND PEACE, which is from Winston Churchill’s 1941 address to U.S. Congress. Martin Jennings’s effigy of King Charles III appears on the obverse.

The Britannia proof coins and bullion versions are struck in precious metals, but the proofs employ specially prepared dies and polished blanks to achieve a detailed finish. The 2026 coins are available in 2-ounce and 1-ounce silver and 1-ounce and 1/10-ounce gold versions, as well as six-coin sets in silver and gold.
