Reinterpreting Classics in Anime

In collaboration with NumisCollect, PopCoins has released a new series that fuses classical art with modern anime. The AI•NIME Art Masterpieces series reinterprets some of the world’s most iconic paintings as fun and dynamic anime scenes on 500-franc, .999-fine silver coins. The first six releases include reimaginings of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss, Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog, Eugène Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People, Edvard Munch’s The Scream, and Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Each intricately detailed coin features the framed reimagined artwork in full color, with the legends AI•NIME Art and Masterpieces bordering the central design. The obverse depicts an anime-style young woman painting on an easel in a field of flowers with the Cameroon coat of arms at left. The denomination and issuing country frame the scene, and the fineness appears at the bottom.
