UltraBreaks, a company specializing in gamified coin collecting, has partnered with Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) to launch the first NGC-certified “break pack,” Carson City Chase. Think of a break pack as a coin grab bag: each sealed package is pulled from a larger certified group of Carson City Mint coins, and collectors discover which coin they’ve received only when it arrives.

Released on October 17, the limited-edition product combines UltraBreaks’ pack-ripping format with NGC’s professional grading and authentication to pay homage to the historic Carson City Mint in Nevada. Available exclusively on UltraBreaks’ website, all 2,111 packs sold out within one day.

UltraBreaks, based in the collectibles industry, focuses on storytelling and chase mechanics to engage modern collectors. The packs build on the pack-rip trend from sports cards and memorabilia, applying it to coins for an interactive experience. “NGC is excited to partner with UltraBreaks to offer collectors a new and exciting way to build their collections,” says Max Spiegel, president of the Certified Collectibles Group. “The first release, with a focus on Carson City, harnesses the enduring interest in the Morgan dollars and other fascinating coins struck at that historic mint.”

The break packs contain coins tied to the Carson City Mint, including modern reproductions, vintage pieces, and gold coins. NGC graded all items in the release. Each item carries one of UltraBreaks’ exclusive labels: Ultra (standard), Ultra Gold Rush (1 in every 10 packs), Ultra Infinity (1 in every 100), and Ultra Nitro (1 in every 500).

The top prize is a single 1879-CC Morgan dollar graded Mint State (MS)-65. The historic coin, which features the new Nitro label, is the biggest chase coin in UltraBreaks’ history. Other highlights include 10 Carson City Liberty Head double eagles (gold $20) with 9 in circulated grades and 1 in brilliant-uncirculated condition, and 100 original 1878 Carson City Morgan dollars in Mint State. The packs also feature the full set of dates from the 2023 Fiji Carson City Morgan dollar series, all graded MS-70.

“With UltraBreaks, we’ve always believed that collecting should be as fun as it is rewarding,” says RJ Manoni, director of marketing at UltraBreaks. “Every pack now carries the trust of expert certification along with the thrill of discovering rare labels like Gold Rush, Infinity, and the ultra-rare Nitro. It’s a game-changer for the hobby, and we’re excited to share it with collectors everywhere.”
