This week’s headlines include an Australian World War II commemorative, a Peace Corps Congressional Gold Medal proposal, SD Bullion dealer pricing offer, and a cache of Byzantine-era gold coins discovered in Israel.

The Royal Australian Mint has released a $2 coin honoring the nearly 40,000 Australians who were killed in World War II. The coin’s design features a purple ribbon that weaves around eight red poppies, one for each decade since the end of the war.

Representative Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota) has introduced H.R. 5521, a bill that seeks to award a Congressional Gold Medal to Peace Corps volunteers. Since 1961, more than 250,000 volunteers have served in the Peace Corps.

SD Bullion is celebrating being named an Authorized Purchaser of U.S. Mint gold bullion coins with a limited-time offer. It is selling 2025 1-ounce gold American Eagle coins at cost, offering customers an opportunity to buy gold at dealer pricing.

Archaeologists uncovered 97 gold coins and ornate jewelry near the ancient Christian city of Hippos by the Sea of Galilee. Dating back over 1,500 years, the hoard—one of the largest Byzantine-era caches found on dry land in Israel—spans emperors Justin I (A.D. 520s) to Heraclius (around A.D. 610).
