This week’s headlines include the 2026 Revolutionary War quarter launch, upcoming Newman Numismatic Portal Symposium, Trump gold coin lawsuit, and Buffalo nickel error.

The U.S. Mint celebrated the launch of the 2026 Revolutionary War quarter with a special event at George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate last week. The mint handed out 1,500 quarters honoring General Washington and Continental soldiers at Valley Forge.

The three-day 2026 Newman Numismatic Portal (NNP) Symposium will take place in Schaumburg, Illinois, on April 23-25 in conjunction with the 87th Central States Numismatic Society convention. For those unable to attend in person, the presentations will be livestreamed via Zoom.

Retired Oregon lawyer James Rickher has filed a lawsuit to block the proposed 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring President Trump that the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts has approved. Rickher argues the design violates an 1866 federal statute prohibiting living people on U.S. currency.

Professional Coin Grading Service has certified the second-finest known example of a Buffalo nickel struck on a dime planchet. Fewer than a dozen examples of this error are known to exist across all dates.
