This week’s headlines include a specialized reference on a Morgan dollar variety, Japan’s new bank notes, and a Canadian company acquires a British polymer bank-note maker.

Japan will introduce new bank notes on July 3 for the first time in 20 years. The country’s National Printing Bureau expects to print a total of 7.48 billion notes by the end of March 2025.

 The Bank of Thailand will issue 10 million commemorative 100-baht bank notes in honor of the king’s birthday on July 28. Unlike regular currency, the notes are vertically designed and feature a portrait of King Rama X in full regalia. The commemoratives are legal tender and can be exchanged for 100 baht each.

Canadian label and packaging maker CCL Industries Inc. will buy British bank-note maker Innovia Group for $842 million. The acquisition is expected to make CCL the world leader in the polymer bank-note market. Innovia currently makes the new UK plastic five-pound note.
