A member of Congress has introduced a bill to award a Congressional Gold Medal to wildland firefighters in “recognition of their strength, resiliency, sacrifice, and service to protect the forests, grasslands, and communities of the United States.” It has been referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

The Department of Coins, Medals, and Antiquities at the National Library of France has published a new two-volume set on the gold coins of France. The books have been written in French and contain 1,000 illustrations of the National Library’s exceptional collection of French royal coins from Louis IX to Louis XVI (1226-1793).

A remarkable double-struck Head of 1794 cent will cross the auction block during Heritage’s ANA US Coins Signature Auction, August 13-18. Few surviving large cent errors from the 1790s exist since most were melted down to create new planchets.

Nine professional numismatists have been approved by the Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation (ACEF) for inclusion in its Trusted Experts Directory. Those added include: Rick DeSanctis, Kenneth Goldman, Michael Lang, Josh Moran, Jeffrey K. Nolen, Patrick T. O’Connor, C. Hugh Shull Jr., Richard E. Snow, and Vince Vento.
