This week’s headlines include a euro bank-note design contest, The Shekel’s anniversary, the 2025 American Liberty gold coin, and the next U.S. Mint director.

The European Central Bank has launched a design contest for its upcoming bank-note redesign. European Union-based designers are invited to submit their designs reflecting European culture or nature until August 18, 2025. The final designs are expected to be selected by the end of 2026.

The American Israel Numismatic Association celebrates The Shekel’s 300th issue by offering a free digital copy to anyone upon request. This full-color, 48-page anniversary issue features articles on Judaic numismatics spanning 2,000 years. Request a copy by emailing ainapresident@gmail.com.

The U.S. Mint will launch its 2025 American Liberty high-relief gold coin on August 21. The latest design features a sunflower and bee, symbolizing the stewardship of democracy. Minted at West Point, the coins include a “W” mintmark.

President Trump has nominated Paul Hollis, a numismatist and author of American Numismatist, as the next U.S. Mint director. A rare coin dealer, Hollis would be the mint’s first director from Louisiana.
