This week’s headlines include collaboration between the U.S. Mint and the Royal Mint, Heritage Auctions’ 2023 sales record, and the RMS Republic.

The United States Mint and the Royal Mint will collaborate on a jointly designed piece for the 2024 Liberty & Britannia Program. Read Louis Golino’s article for more information.

Heritage Auctions reached $1.76 billion in total sales in 2023, the highest ever for the 47-year-old company. The amount represents 21-percent growth over 2022.

Recovery efforts of the nearly $10 billion in cargo from the sunken RMS Republic, dubbed the “Millionaires’ Ship” because of its wealthy passengers, is expected to begin in June. The vessel sank off the coast of Massachusetts in 1909.

The Monnaie de Paris was forced to destroy and remake 27 million coins after it struck coins with stars that were hard to see. The mint did not receive advance approval from the European Commission, which rejected the design.
