This week’s headlines include record-breaking cryptocurrencies, Belize’s move away from colonialism on bank notes, CCAC meeting, and AI counterfeit software.

According to Cryptopresales.com, the total number of cryptocurrencies has risen to a record 10,700 last week, 800 of which have been launched in the last two months.

In its latest currency redesign, Belize has removed the British monarch from its currency. Belize has replaced the image of the late Queen Elizabeth II on its bank notes with portraits of its national heroes. The new notes will enter circulation in June.

The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) will hold a public meeting via videoconference to review designs for the 2026 American Innovation $1 Coin Program and 2025 Sacagawea 25th Anniversary Coins on February 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:45 pm (ET).

A developer of an AI counterfeit coin detection software system claims it can detect counterfeit coins with 99 percent accuracy. The tool was also able to identify some fakes that experts had missed. The team of developers published their findings in the journal Systems with Applications last year.
