To mark the 25-year anniversary of the Sacagawea dollar, the United States Mint could issue a 24kt gold coin in 2025 featuring its original design. The U.S. Mint presented the possibility to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) last week.

On the heels of President Donald Trump’s announcement to eliminate the cent, several news outlets have pointed out that production of the next smallest denomination—the nickel—is even more wasteful. According to cnn.com, it costs 13.8 cents to produce each nickel. However, no announcements have been made regarding the nickel’s fate.
