This week’s headlines include the 2026 CSNS convention, European counterfeits, Riksbank policy changes, and Australian commemoratives.

The Central States Numismatic Society will honor Missouri in its ongoing 13-state tribute program during its annual convention. Held April 23–25 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center, visitors can receive one of the 1,000 donated 2017 Ozark National Scenic Riverways quarters, while supplies last.

Authorities from 18 European countries seized €1.2 billion in counterfeit currency during a June–November 2025 operation led by Austria, Portugal, and Spain. Over seven million fake items—including 4.8 million euros, $2.3 million, 23,302 pounds and 4,800 Swiss francs—were intercepted, prompting multiple investigations across Europe and the U.S.

Sweden’s central bank, the Riksbank, has proposed a new cash redemption policy. Under the new guidelines, obsolete bank notes would no longer be able to be exchanged into current notes by mid-2027. It also proposes to stop redeeming damaged commemorative coins.

In 2026 Australia marks 125 years since its six founding states became a federation. The Royal Australian Mint will issue uncirculated 25-cent coins honoring the original six states and a $1 coin for the Commonwealth.
