This week’s headlines includes new polymer peso notes, the ANS’s relocation, and a new coin recognizing Aesop’s Fables.

The Philippines Central Bank plans to release new polymer bank notes featuring animals indigenous to the Philippines. The new designs for the 50-, 100-, and 500-piso notes showcase the country’s biodiversity and cultural heritage.

Several Paris 2024 Olympians have complained that their prized medals look discolored just four months after the conclusion of the games. The appearance of some bronze medals has deteriorated and lost their luster, making them look much older than they are.

The mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts, has said that preliminary plans for the American Numismatic Society (ANS) to move to the city’s Bank Street Armory are “moving forward.” Plans to relocate the ANS to Fall River are tentative, although officials have reportedly discussed the possibility of renovating the armory and turning it into a museum.

The Greek Mint’s first coin in a new series of Nordic gold (aluminum-bronze) €1.50 coins highlighting Aesop’s Fables depicts the beloved tale of the tortoise and the hare. Mintage of the colorized inaugural issue is limited to 3,500. Coins can be purchased from the Royal Scandinavian Mint.
