This week’s headlines include the takeover of a bank-note printer, legislation targeting the Federal Reserve, 2025 Maundy money, and changes to the Royal Mint Experience.

The United States investment firm Atlas Holdings is in the process of acquiring the U.K.-based currency printer De La Rue. The printer, which was founded in the 1800s, prints bank notes for around 140 nations and jurisdictions, including England, Thailand, and Qatar. The takeover is expected to be finalized in September.

Legislation introduced in the House and Senate calls for the elimination of the Federal Reserve system, which was introduced in 1913 to provide a more stable monetary and financial system. The acts seek to dissolve the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Reserve banks and repeal the 1913 Federal Reserve Act.

King Charles III presented specially-minted Maundy money to 76 men and 76 women—the same number as his age—to thank them for their charitable contributions and community service. The presentation of the commemorative coins took place during a Maundy Thursday service at Durham Cathedral on April 17.

The Royal Mint Experience in Wales is going to receive an upgrade. Sarner International will design and build the renovation, which will be carried out in phases. The revamped exhibit will highlight the history, craftsmanship, and evolution of the Royal Mint.
