Liberty will take equine form for the second time in less than a decade with the 2027 American Liberty High Relief 1-ounce .9999-fine gold $100 coin and complementary 1-ounce .999-fine silver medal. The design depicts a Pegasus, the winged horse from Greek mythology. The U.S. Mint’s website explains, “In contemporary symbolism, Pegasus often represents liberty and freedom, whereas early Americans chose to depict the Roman goddess Libertas.” An American eagle perched on the right fist of an allegorical human Liberty will anchor the reverse.

The newest Commission of Fine Arts panel—whose members were appointed by President Donald J. Trump on January 14, 2026, and sworn in on January 22—recommended the motif. They considered nearly two dozen designs for both the obverse and reverse of the $100 American Liberty High Relief gold coin and silver medal, becoming the latest biennial installments in a series that debuted in 2015.

The West Point Mint will produce these 30.6mm gold coins that bear a “W” mintmark. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Mint will strike the 40.6mm silver medal proofs that carry a “P” mintmark.
