Latvia’s Fashion Coin
The Latvian Mint will release its Riga Fashion coin on December 13. The collector issue recognizes the 1960-80s, when the Riga Fashion House (1948-97) and the Rīgas Modes (“Riga Fashion”) magazine (1949-93) were at the height of their popularity.
Alīna Grīnpauka, a well-known fashion designer and illustrator based in Riga, Latvia; and New York, designed the 5-euro coin. Her impressive resume includes collaborations with iconic fashion brands, including Valentino, Alberta Ferretti, and Tiffany & Co.
The obverse features a stylish, confident woman wearing a bold floral-patterned dress. The image is a modern representation of the type of woman who graced the pages of the most well-read fashion magazine in the USSR. The reverse shows a stylized pattern of the dress shown on the obverse.
The Latvian Mint will produce just 3,000 of these 35mm silver proof coins, priced at €75 (approximately $81). To purchase or learn more, visit the mint’s website.
