Whitman Brands has released distinguished numismatist Tom DeLorey’s most recent book, The Enigmatic Lincoln Cents of 1922. The meticulously researched and richly illustrated text is the second release in Whitman’s Professional Series, a line of references designed to expand advanced collectors’ expertise in specialized areas.

DeLorey recounts the 1922 Lincoln cent’s story from the U.S. Mint floor to the collector community. He examines how economic pressures, technology, and human ingenuity combined to create one of the hobby’s most desired varieties. “For more than a century, these coins have puzzled collectors and professionals alike,” states DeLorey. “Through decades of research, firsthand examination, and newly discovered evidence, I’ve sought to explain how such dramatic differences could emerge from a single year and mint.”

The Enigmatic Lincoln Cents of 1922 provides an exhaustive die-state analysis of 1922 Denver cent varieties, archival research, diagnostic charts, and examinations of long-standing myths surrounding the “No D” cent. It also presents new theories that could reshape the conventional understanding of this iconic error. “Tom’s scholarship represents the best of what Whitman’s Professional Series stands for—depth, precision, and passion,” says Whitman Brands Chief Publishing Officer Patrick Ian Perez. “This is not just a book about a famous cent—it’s a masterclass in how numismatic science and history intertwine.”

The volume is available from Whitman Brands, Amazon, and other major booksellers for $34.95 (standard hardcover) and $59.95 (limited collector’s edition).
