Honor, Courage & Commitment
On July 17, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (MCHF) and the U.S. Mint unveiled the designs of three commemorative coins marking the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps. These are the only commemoratives the U.S. Mint will produce in 2025. The designs highlight the tradition and values of the Marine Corps, which was founded on November 10, 1775, by a resolution from the Second Continental Congress. The Marine Corps remains an important tool for U.S. policy today. Serving on land and at sea, Marines are often the first military members deployed to a situation.
The coins’ common reverse features the branch’s official emblem—the eagle, globe, and anchor. The obverse of the gold $5 coin depicts a color guard. The flag raising at Iwo Jima is rendered on the silver $1 coin. Lastly, the clad half dollar juxtaposes a modern Marine in the foreground with a Continental Marine in the background.
All surcharges from the sale of these coins will support MCHF and the museum’s future programs around the country that seek to educate the public about Marine Corps history, traditions, and culture. To learn more, visit MCHF’s website.
