The Monnaie de Paris is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the comic strip Peanuts with several collector coins. Snoopy travels to Paris to celebrate this grand occasion. One of the coins depicts the beloved beagle wearing sunglasses, having just set his suitcase down in front of the Eiffel Tower, with his best friend Woodstock accompanying him. The collection also includes a coin shaped like Snoopy, in which he hugs a large red heart inscribed with “75.” A third piece features this same pose on a round coin.

Just seven newspapers published the first ever installment of Peanuts on October 2, 1950. Created by cartoonist Charles M. Schultz, the gang of characters—including favorites such as Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, Sally, and of course, Snoopy—have gained world fame. According to the mint’s engraving team, “At first glance, Peanuts is a simple, childlike comic strip, but it turns out to be extremely subtle and sensitive. Its characters need no artifice to be expressive: their simple drawings can tell a story, and they literally take shape and come to life in the metal.”

The three designs are available in gold and colorized silver from the mint’s website. Mintages are limited, and prices range from about US$18 (for the circulation-strike 10-euro silver coin) to US$4,905 (for the 200-euro gold coin).
