The Royal Canadian Mint is preparing to welcome Santa Claus this year with a festive coin. Lisa Thomson-Khan designed the colorful reverse, which depicts Santa’s home and workshop at the North Pole. In the center, Santa adjusts his glasses while checking his mailbox for the latest letters from children around the world. The sign on the candy cane mailbox pole reads H0H 0H0, the official Canadian postal code for the North Pole. In the background, one of Santa’s reindeer stands outside a decorated building, illuminated by the light of a full moon. The legend CANADA appears underneath the design. When viewed under a black light (included with purchase), the holiday decor, moon, mailbox, and top and base of the pole all glow in the dark. The obverse features Steven Rosati’s effigy of King Charles II.

The $20, .9999-fine silver coins cost CAD$144.95 each and have a limited mintage of 7,000. For more information, visit the Royal Canadian Mint’s website.
