The entire U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) has been fired, effective yesterday, October 28. The CFA advises the Secretary of the Treasury on U.S. circulating and commemorative coinage and medal designs, as well as other projects. In his Facebook post on the announcement, former Whitman publisher Dennis Tucker points out that current legislation requires the Treasury Secretary to consult with the CFA on commemorative designs, including those of the 2026 Semiquincentennial coins and medals.

The commission was established by Congress in 1910 “to advise the federal government on matters pertaining to the arts and national symbols, and to guide the architectural development of Washington, D.C.,” according to its website. MSN quoted a government official as saying they are “preparing to appoint a new slate of members to the commission that are more aligned with President Trump’s ‘America First’ Policies.”
