Canadian Superheroes in Gold and Silver

The Royal Canadian Mint has released gold and silver coins depicting Deadpool and Wolverine, two Marvel characters with Canadian roots. Deadpool (whose real name is Wade Wilson) hails from Saskatchewan, and Wolverine (James Howlett) is from Alberta. Precious-metals company Agoro designed the coins.

The 1/4-ounce, .9999-fine gold coin features Deadpool on the obverse and Wolverine on the reverse, while the two silver coins depict each superhero in full color. On the silver examples, a maple leaf appears behind each character’s portrait. The common reverse features Deadpool and Wolverine’s hands, with the legend TIME TO GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY CAME FOR encircling the design.

All three coins are available on the Royal Canadian Mint’s website. The silver coins have mintages of 10,000 each and cost US$184. The gold example has a mintage of 1,500 and costs US$1,695. Shipping will begin on October 20 for the silver coins and on November 2 for the gold version.
