As part of its ongoing French Excellence collection, the Monnaie de Paris has collaborated with Lancôme to create a precious-metals tribute to the well-known French beauty company. Established in 1935 by perfumer Armand Petitjean, Lancôme distributes luxury cosmetics, perfume, and skincare products around the world.

The commemorative coin collection consists of silver and gold coins shaped like Lancôme’s Absolu Rouge lipstick, along with a round coin that depicts the brand’s iconic rose with nine petals for its 90th anniversary, as well as textures evoking the essence of perfume, skincare, and makeup. A third design showcases the “ô” in Lancôme as the central motif. Available in gold and silver (¼ ounce, 1 ounce, and 5 ounce), the coins combine high relief, reverse polishing, and guilloché finishes. An impressive 1-kilo rose-shaped coin in rose gold, of which only nine will be struck, completes the assemblage.

“When I immersed myself in the world of Lancôme, I was immediately surprised and drawn to the meticulous work that had gone into the materials. Observing the embossed patterns on the powders, the shapes of the perfume bottles and their packaging, I realized that the care taken in the finishing touches of the products was the visible part of a very special expertise,” says designer Joaquin Jimenez. “I explored each of the layers that make up its history to extract the motifs that best symbolize it, as one would do with a flower to extract its fragrance. From this work was born a new rose, a magical encounter between the spirit of Lancôme and precious metal.”
