The warehouse retailer Costco Wholesale has recently started selling gold bars, gold coins, and silver coins. The products are popular and sell out quickly. Costco members can order 24kt 1-ounce Swiss-made gold bars for about $2,200 each. The 1-ounce 2024 Canada Maple Leaf gold $50 coins are the same price, while a 25-count tube of the 1-ounce silver $5 version costs $680.
The obverse of the coins bears a portrait of King Charles III, and the reverse features a prominent maple leaf. The coins can’t be returned and are not eligible for price adjustments. Purchases are limited per membership, and the price for all products includes standard shipping via UPS.
Costco’s chief financial officer has stated that its precious-metals sales have led to a substantial rise in the company’s e-commerce sales growth.
