Experts at the Royal Mint Museum connect numismatics with the United Kingdom’s maritime history in a new, six-part podcast. The series, Coins and the Sea, is hosted by Royal Mint Museum experts Chris Barker, Susan Sandford, and David Mason. In each part, the hosts dive into British naval history and its associated coinage. A selection of otherwise not publicly accessible numismatic art accompanies each episode. Coins and the Sea covers topics such as numismatic maritime imagery, trade, coinage recovered from shipwrecks, and more.

The series was created in collaboration with the British Museum, the National Museum of the Royal Navy, and other institutions. The Royal Mint Museum has also created a wider Coins and the Sea project. This includes a Royal Mint Experience exhibit highlighting treasure recovered from shipwrecks and the first coin made by the Royal Mint that depicts a ship—Edward III’s golden noble.

Coins and the Sea is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and wherever podcasts can be found. A synopsis of each episode and its associated numismatic art is available on the Royal Mint Museum’s website.
