The 2026 Revolutionary War semiquincentennial quarter will hit the streets later this month. News that the 2026 Revolutionary War quarter would be included in the nation’s 2026 semiquincentennial coin program surprised many. The Revolutionary War was not among the themes that the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) recommended to the Treasury Secretary in 2024. However, the Treasury Secretary has final decision on what designs will be selected for use on the nation’s coinage. A change in position occurred between when the CCAC made its recommendations to then–Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who served under President Joe Biden, and last year, when Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on January 27, 2025—made his selections for the 2026 coins.

The obverse of the Revolutionary War quarter depicts a portrait of George Washington by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna that appeared on the first Presidential Dollar in 2007. The reverse, with its motif of a Continental Army soldier at Valley Forge, is the work of Donna Weaver. The mint will release the coin in rolls and bags on March 27.
